Biography
My inspiration My father studied chemical technology at the Technical University of Delft, so my interest for chemistry is in the genes! I became really interested in chemistry when it became clear to me that it is also possible to simulate chemical reactions, using computers. I am mainly interested in the dynamics of chemical reactions. How fast are chemical reactions, and in what way is the reactive process governed by the forces acting between the atoms making up the reactants? The topic I focus on concerns reactions which are relevant to the production and storage of hydrogen. Chemistry is the discipline which can realise the hydrogen economy, by solving the scientific problems that still stand in the way of mass producing hydrogen without making CO2, and storing hydrogen efficiently for automotive applications. Through my theoretical work, I want to contribute to the scientific solutions that will enable the introduction of the hydrogen economy.
